Description
The course of studies “Bachelor of Arts in African Languages, Media and Communication” is offered by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. The bachelor covers the central idea of a sociolinguistic, media-linguistic and structural-linguistic basic training with reference to African languages. In order to impart basic communication skills, as well as the acquisition of important overview knowledge in various relevant areas of linguistic production in Africa and in the African diaspora the bachelor includes topics of the diversity of languages, basic cultural and linguistic historical guidelines as well as current social and technological and media framework communication in African languages. The course pursues the goal of imparting basic African-linguistic analysis methods of transcription techniques and the evaluation of ethnographic data via the linguistic sociological description of human communication behavior to discourse-analytical and intercultural interpretation. By completing their bachelor degree, the graduates gain the access to specialize in fields of activity such as public relations and PR work in organizations and companies related to Africa, Africa-specific publishing, media, journalism and more.
