The six-semester study program “Bachelor of Arts in Archeology” is provided by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. It includes practical experience in the form of excursions as well as museums and media with main focus on the material evidence of earlier societies and civilizations, mainly obtained through excavations while exploring the time frame of the Stone Age through the so-called Metal Ages such as Copper, Bronze, Iron Ages and classical antiquity to late antiquity and the Byzantine period and the early Middle Ages. The main questions that are dealt with by the archaeological subjects are covering the function of objects and findings and the analysis as evidence of different aspects of the prehistoric, ancient and early medieval world.
