The “Bachelor of Arts in Book Studies” is provided by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz with a duration of six semesters. Courses offer a combination of historical and current research fields. The students gain knowledge of book-related topics in an additional qualification while the content of the course comprises modules from the core areas of current and historical research in book studies, in particular from the areas of production, distribution and reception. During the core subject, students become familiarized with fundamental questions related to book studies, the most important subject areas and specialist terminology. Furthermore, the use of book-scientific methods and theories is practiced while graduates study media law, book culture, book in the media context, design and technology, media economy, book reception and more.
