“Bachelor of Education in Catholic Religious Studies” is with a total length of six semesters offered by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. The Catholic Theology deals with the contents and the manifestations as well as the history and the tradition of the Christian faith as it is found in the biblical message. Graduates examine the different approaches to the belief in one God documented in the testimonies of Israel and the Christian Church with different methods in accordance with present-day scientific disciplines such as historico-critical method, methods of linguistics, literary, and cultural studies. During the course, the fundamentals of faith are studied and re-interpreted from the viewpoint of modern-day religious, philosophical, and social issues while the students develop both the basic and in-depth knowledge required to work as a religious education teacher.
