Offered by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, the study course “Master of Arts in Comparative Literature” is with a total duration of four semesters. By focusing primarily on the current research fields of intertextuality, interculturality and intermediality as well as in the field of literary theory the students acquire knowledge in literary studies in a labor market-oriented manner and key qualifications in a strong research-oriented manner. The intercultural aspect of literature illuminates questions of cultural identity, alterity, the representation of the foreign, the hybridization of cultures and migration as literary as well as cultural-social phenomena  while the course also explores the relationships between literature, painting, music, and sculpture, as well as newer media such as photography and film.
