Description
The study program “Master of Arts in Empirical Democracy Research” is with a duration of four semesters and offered by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. During the course, theory of science and the analytical, qualitative and quantitative methods of political science acquired in the bachelor's degree are deepened. The aim is to enable students to critically evaluate the empirical work of others and to prepare their own studies based on theory and methodology while the participants learn to systematically describe, analyze and compare political institutions and processes at national, European and international level. By focusing on special empirical and normative democratic theories the graduates acquire the basics to be able to conduct theory-based empirical research on democracy, political attitudes in general and political culture in particular, social values and value orientations, political socialization and attitudes towards democracy, political extremism, populism and especially Euroscepticism as well as about political and social trust.
