With a total duration of six semesters, the program “Bachelor of Arts in German Studies” is provided by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. The program combines both linguistics and literary studies and deals with both older and more modern periods of literature in German. Early literary history studies the literature of the Middle Ages and examines the development of cultural traditions and the origins of cultural changes. The Linguistics analyzes the German language and its speech systems in the past and present while the Historical linguistics is primarily oriented towards the development of the German language and its dialects from the early Middle Ages to modern times.
