Provided by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, the two-subject study course “Bachelor of Arts in Italian” is with a six-semester standard period of study. The main subject of the program is the language system, varieties and linguistic history of Italian while the literary studies section comprises the reading and interpretation of Italian texts from the Middle Ages to the present day, imparting knowledge of literary history as well as a variety of methodological approaches and theoretical approaches. In the cultural studies sub-area, students acquire knowledge of the social, political, cultural and historical aspects of Italy such as history, geography, cultural identity, stereotypes, administrative and educational structures and more.
