The six-semester study program “Bachelor of Arts in Journalism” is provided by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. The course provides the necessary theoretical and methodological basics of journalism along with basic knowledge of reading, understanding and writing scientific texts. The focus of journalism as an empirical social science is the learning of basic quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection as well as the statistical analysis of quantitative data. During the method-centered advanced seminars, the students learn journalistic research and have the opportunity to conduct content analyzes, surveys and experiments under supervision and also deal with selected issues relating to media history, law and politics and reflect on current media trends, for example in the area of online communication / new media.
