The study course “Master of Education in Music” is provided by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz is with a duration of four semesters. By building on the bachelor’s degree in Music, participants acquire knowledge about musical development and musical learning, work with music didactic concepts and models, implement their own music education projects and gain insights into the music educational research supplemented by in-depth training for working in typical school ensembles such as wind class, string class, choir class and practical piano playing. The both artistic and scientifically-oriented study course prepares the participants for a career as a musician or music teacher. During their study, the students have the opportunity to select their instrument or singing as a major and acquire the ability to create music independently while mastering the musical techniques along with artistic presentation methods and principles of order. The graduates also attend courses in music theory and musicological subjects such as listening training, sentence theory, instrument science and music history.
