Provided by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz the degree program “Master of Arts in Musicology” is with a total duration of four semesters. The main aim of the program is to significantly enhance key competences of musicological work and theory in a scientific and application-oriented way broadly in subject and methodology discourse relating to culture and history. It imparts two main modules "Understanding Music in a Historical Context" and "Music Historiography" where graduates explore the analysis of the main categories of music history, taking into account the current research situation and enables the students to critically assess both resources and phenomena relating to music history and more. Throughout the program, the participants obtain key cultural and specific musicology skills along with the ability to integrate musicology-related topics and issues with associated cultural historical disciplines.
