Description
The ten-semester degree program “Magister Theologiae in Protestant Theology” is offered by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. It analyzes the statements of the Christian faith with the aim of bringing their relevance and truth to bear in conversation with the respective present in the legacy of Reformation theology and history. By providing to the students the subject Old Testament and the subject New Testament that deal with the biblical scriptures as the documents of the history of Israel and early Christianity the subject areas explore the genesis of the texts and changes in the understanding of the text, taking into account the institutional, social, legal and event-historical context as well as the archaeological findings. The practical theology imparts a methodically reflected theory of the church's fields of action where students are able to explore the current conditions of church action with the methods of extra-theological sciences such as sociology, psychology, pedagogy, rhetoric and more.
