Offered by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz the degree course “Bachelor of Education in Russian” is with a length of six semesters. By aiming primarily to professionally train the prospective students to further become Russian teachers in secondary schools, the subject of the course focuses on the Russian language, literature and geography, as well as the science of teaching Russian. The program provides language skills and structured knowledge for basic secondary fields that are particularly relevant to school such as linguistics, literary studies, and cultural studies. The students acquire the necessary linguistic and didactic prerequisites to successfully teach in secondary schools and become able to explain the modern linguistic situation of Russian from a historical linguistic viewpoint while conveying knowledge of the literature, the culture and the history of Russia.
