The two-subject study program “Bachelor of Arts in Slavic Studies/Eastern European Studies: Russian Studies” is offered by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz with a duration of six semesters. Throughout the program, the prospective students are able to acquire specialist knowledge, key skills in academic writing, competence in foreign cultures while working independently. The course compares the different Slavic languages, cultures and countries with one another as well as with non-Slavic linguistic and cultural areas and examines the languages, literatures and cultures of the eastern, central-eastern and south-eastern European linguistic communities. In addition to Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine included states are Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Balkans, also including the states of the former Yugoslavia. Graduates learn the interpretation of Slavic literature, Slavic languages while working intensively with the linguistic, literary and cultural elements of the Slavic language area.
