The two-subject study course “Bachelor of Arts in Sociology” is provided by Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz with a duration of six semesters. It provides the students with basic knowledge of the methods of empirical social research and an insight into sociological theories. With the option of choosing two from the six special sociologies the aim of the modularly structured course is to offer students both an application-oriented and job-oriented course. The method training includes both quantitative and qualitative methods of empirical social research as well as dealing with the current mainstreams of theoretical sociology. Through the six special sociologies and the obligatory practical module students obtain a broad reference to the fields of sociological professional practice along with the special sociologies family sociology, gender studies, cultural sociology, educational sociology, media sociology.
