Offered by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, the program “Master of Arts in Sociology: Research Practice and Practice Research” is with a total duration of four semesters. The scientifically-oriented course is with strong theoretical and methodological focus where participants are able to practice theoretical discussions, obtain the development of methods, and empirical knowledge in sociology by completing practical research assignments. Students train project-oriented work from a didactic point of view and acquire exploratory methods, methods for quantitative, standardized sociological research with the option to either choose an advanced program oriented toward qualitative or quantitative statistical methods. Throughout the course, students learn in seminars, workshops, tutorials, supertutorials, colloquia and self-learning groups.
