The two-study course “Bachelor of Arts in Turcology” is provided by the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz with a total length of six semesters. The program examines the languages and cultures of Turkish people in the past and present along with Turkish, Ottoman Turkish with the languages and cultures. Students obtain knowledge of the Turkish language with all aspects of Turkish culture. In addition, the prospective students acquire knowledge of the history of the Turkic people, the history, politics and religion of the Ottoman Empire, as well as the history, society and politics of the Republic of Turkey and acquire a basic patrimonial knowledge. Course components also include courses on the typology and historical development of the Turkic languages, including Ottoman Turkish.
