Description
Plant Sciences explore the growth, reproduction and development of plants, their interaction with the environment they grow in, and their importance in the world. The aim of the program is to learn about plants in all aspects – from the way they interact with their surroundings and each other and reproduce, to the way they are used as resources for food, fuel and pharmaceutical crops, while putting equal importance on preserving them and maintaining their health, as well as nature as a whole. Plant Science students also have the opportunity to research and help solve current environmental issues, such as the adaptation of plants to climate change, making sure enough food is produced to feed the growing population, conserving certain species, coming up with sustainable alternatives and fighting plant diseases. Plant Science programs incorporate aspects of both theory and practical labor in research labs or farms in order to fully prepare students for their future careers. Graduates can choose from a wide range of jobs, including agronomist, botanist, food scientist, agriculture manager, organic farmer, plant pathologist, crop and soil scientist, researcher and more.
