The Leipzig University of Applied Sciences provides the study program “Master of Arts in Library and Information Science”. The study is directed at those who already possess a bachelor, and leads to a second professional qualification. Professional and independent competent work is the final goal of the course-takers and the course-providers. The diverse functions of library workers, or information-conveying institutions, include archiving, handling, selecting, digitization of materials, personnel, project management and organization. Compulsory subjects stand for 40 credit points and the elective – for 20. The eight-week internship is fulfilled within the third semester, followed by a master’s thesis. Profile lines, which are not obligatory, can be taken in Historical Collections, Music Libraries and Library Education.
