At Leipzig University of Applied Sciences the “Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering” degree lasts for six semesters, the sixth dedicated to the thesis preparation. The studies focus on the development, design and construction of machines. Apart from that, quality management, and optimization and improvement of the mechanical processes are part of the responsibility of a mechanical engineer in a company. The degree develops from theory and scientific knowledge to practical application of the learned content and methods. Digitalization through industry 4.0 implies additional dimension to the program. The corresponding workplace for future graduates is as plant engineers, constructing or maintaining tools, small and heavy machinery, automotive parts, rail vehicles, or contributing with their competence in the research centers of this type.
