The “Bachelor of Arts in Social Work” at Leipzig University of Applied Sciences is executed within a period of six semesters, with an internship in the third, and practical module in the fifth one. There is also the availability of a study abroad period. The application of Basic Law and the United Nations Convention on Human Rights, through respect of the dignity, freedom and equality of all people, solidarity and democratic principles, direct the content of the studies. Knowledge from diverse scientific fields has to be acquired in order to function properly as a social services specialist, in offering emergency, preventive and remedial work to institutions and organizations, or as a freelance professional, to people of all ages experiencing some kind of disadvantage or hardship. These key areas are law, psychology, pedagogy, medicine and ethics. Helping social society and the welfare state function well is the goal of the preparation of the future graduates.
