The digital revolution has led to the modernization of many industries, one of which being music. Music Informatics is a relatively new academic field, which focuses mainly on research. Music Informatics deals with the production, distribution, consumption and analysis of music through digital technology. Its main aim is to improve the design of music, help distribute it more efficiently and gain understanding of the nature of music and the processes related to it. Music Informatics degree courses are interdisciplinary, but the most common subjects they teach include Musical Analysis, Advanced Computer Music Composition, Music Theory and Literature, Musical Recording, Digital Music Libraries and Collections Architectures, Music Modeling Systems and others. Music Informatics students also have the opportunity to research and discuss contemporary topics in the music industry, like for example, current trends in music technologies, social and economic realities of the consumption of music, and the future of the distribution of music. Music Informatics graduates have an excellent choice of potential careers, for examples in the following fields: recording and productions, game music, film scoring, music audio analysis, studio engineering and sound design.
