The “Bachelor of Science in Midwifery” program at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences is with a length of 6 full-time semesters. It builds on the training at one of the cooperating midwifery schools, but also offers already qualified midwives the opportunity to matriculate. The aim of the degree is to provide students with the ability to further develop professional practice in midwifery and to make evidence-based and needs-based decision-making. Methods of empirical social research in midwifery, Theoretical foundations of midwifery, Fields of action of health promotion and prevention in midwifery, Advice and decision-making in midwifery, Business and legal basics in health care and other subjects are taught. Candidates need a university entrance qualification such as high school diploma, advanced technical college entrance qualification, state-recognized specialist training or an equivalent previous education such as an immaturity examination. In addition, they must have a training position to become a midwife or maternity nurse at a midwifery school that cooperates with the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences.
