The study course “Master of Arts in Ancient Civilization Studies” provided by the Saarland University is with a duration of four semesters. With a combination of ancient history, classical archaeology, classical philology, pre- and protohistory the course aims to provide the prospective with insight into the early phases of Europe and its cultures. The master degree course provides students with the specialist skills necessary for challenging professional positions while the program also provides the opportunity to select one of the four core subject areas as main subject. Depending on the choice the focus is on the analysis and interpretation of Greek and Latin texts, or pictorial and visual sources and of material culture. The program also includes excursions, practical training and archaeological excavations in order to develop and deepen their understanding of the chosen fields and the associated scientific and academic methodologies.
