Provided by the Saarland University the accredited program “Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics” can be studied as part-time with duration of eight semesters or as full-time with total length of six semesters. The aim of the course is to provide the participants with the basic scientific qualification in bioinformatics as well as basic specialist knowledge of biosciences and computer science. Graduates understand problems and issues in bioinformatics and their applications, model them mathematically and learn to successfully apply scientific methods. The course teaches how to formalize and abstract in order to acquire further mathematical knowledge using knowledge with the help of textbooks, to implement and test medium sized object-oriented systems in Java and the basic principles of imperative, object-oriented programming.
