Offered by the Saarland University the degree program “Master of Arts in German Language and Literature” is with a duration of four semesters total. During the course, the participants are able to select from three areas of specialization and to explore a thorough analysis of literary texts and texts relating to literary theory covering the period from the Middle Ages to the present day, focusing in particular on the analysis of film and theatrical works and critical textual editing. The second area of specialization enables to explore the analysis of linguistic problems in syntax, semantics, pragmatics, morphology, phonetics/phonology, language history and psycholinguistics while the “German as a foreign language / German as a second language” specialization aims to focus on teaching students the linguistic, psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic foundations, how to plan and execute language lessons and language teaching sessions in different contexts and for different target groups.
