The study course “Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Science” is provided by the Technical University of Dortmund with a length of six semesters. The program covers the architecture and use of information systems, with a focus ondatabase and information retrieval systems are in the foreground while students form an understand the basics of syntax and semantics of information system services. Throughout the course, prospective students learn about the architecture of information systems and, based on this, become able to perform the development cycle of applications while obtaining solid knowledge of elementary data structures, their properties, advantages and disadvantages, important design methods for efficient algorithms and comprehension of efficient algorithms for fundamental problems. Special emphasis is put on presenting positive results in an algorithm-oriented way with elementary design patterns and simple software architectures.
