With a duration of eight semesters the course “Bachelor of Science in Spatial Planning” is offered by the Technical University of Dortmund. By providing an interdisciplinary approach, the study program imparts the necessary preparation for activities in planning science and practice along with specializations such as landscape, transport and environment. In addition, students acquire comprehension in theories and strategies necessary to solve complex spatial planning problems. Taught both in English and German, the study course imparts the methodological skills for spatial research and planning while conveying knowledge about the design options for townscapes and landscapes as well as the options for controlling and regulating the processes of urban design. Participants learn about the basics of monument preservation and monument protection, gain methodological competences for independent development of a municipal concept for soil management and more with an overview of planning approaches and enforcement instruments on different spatial levels such as municipality, region, state and federal government.
