The degree program “Master of Science in Biological Process Engineering” offered at the University of Kaiserslautern focuses on the core biochemical engineering principles that enable the translation of advances in the life sciences into real processes or products. Students will develop engineering skills in bioprocess design, bioreactor engineering, downstream processing, state-of-the-art life science techniques, including molecular biology, vaccine development, microfluidics and essential business and regulatory knowledge. The core subjects within the degree program are Bioprocess Engineering, Technical Engineering and Mechanical Process Engineering, providing students with knowledge and skills required to continue further with either doctoral degree studies or directly enter their career life. Graduates will have the scientific and technological competencies to translate concepts of new biochemical products and processes into safe and economically viable production. They can also play a useful role in the practical efforts to remedy environmental problems and reduce the energy consumption of current production activities. Graduates will be at the leading edge of the biological engineering field, on their way to a successful career based on research and development.
