The University of Applied Sciences Eastern Switzerland, founded in 1999, is a public institution of higher education seated in St. Gallen. It has further locations in Buchs and Rapperswill. The University currently has a total of round about 6,000 students enrolled in Bachelor and consecutive Master programs as well as continuing education programs. It breaks down into five departments: the Department of Technology/Computer Science, the Department of Architecture-Building-Planning, the Department of Business/Tourism, the Department of Social Work, and the Department of Health.
