Description
The Master’s degree “Master of Arts in Development Studies” offers the students the opportunity to view "development" from different perspectives, to link methodological and theoretical approaches and to recognize the connection between social, political, economic and spatial conditions. This course combines development sociological and political, geographical and economic events, as well as it helps the individuals to gain subject-specific, interdisciplinary and practice-related skills, with a focus on Africa and the diverse research on the Global South. Thus, the universities of Bayreuth and Bordeaux Montaigne offer three MA Development Studies students each year with a focus on geography the opportunity to acquire a double degree, as well as the students in the master’s course 'Géographie - Etudes du Développement' in Bordeaux are also offered three places per year. The future career paths of this Master’s degree include work within national and international development cooperation institutions or with close ties to the Global South: ministries, development agencies, regional organizations and even the United Nations. The entry requirements include a completed degree with at least an examination grade of “2.5” in the bachelor's degree in Applied Africa Studies, Culture and Society of Africa or International Economy and Development or Geographical Development Research in Africa or Philosophy & Economics or the B.Sc. Geography or culture and society with the subject sociology at the University of Bayreuth or an equivalent degree, as well as linguistic proficiency English: C1 and German: A1.
