The University of Bayreuth offers the Bachelor’s degree “Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural German Studies” that is characterized by research focuses and practical relevance in intercultural linguistics and communication studies, intercultural literary and cultural studies, as well as on the German as a foreign language. The University of Bayreuth currently provides the students with the 'double degree' courses and cooperation partnerships with Ustí nad Labem (CZ), Moscow (RU), Utrecht (NL), Lomé (Togo) / Cotonou (Benin), Qingdao (PR China), Seoul (South Korea) and Bogotá (Colombia), which contributes to the great attractiveness of the subject for German-speaking and international students with different mother tongues. The main purpose of this course is to fulfill its objectives and tasks through a concept in which the Germanic sub-areas of intercultural design are integrated in a balanced way and perspectives of multilingualism research and translation studies are included. There are many career prospects for this Bachelor’s degree graduates, such as work in professional fields within international companies, organizations and associations. The entry requirements include general or relevant subject-specific university entrance qualification in accordance with the ordinance on qualifications for studying at the universities of the Free State of Bavaria and the state-recognized non-state universities or an equivalent foreign university entrance qualification. Relating to the language, applicants who have neither their higher education entrance qualification nor their first degree in German can prove their knowledge of the German language by means of level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference or by means of a thesis in a German-language course at a university.
