Description
The focus of the study course “Master of Arts in Intercultural German Studies” is the interdisciplinary intercultural research, with special consideration of dialogue and communication including the conditions of rationality, emotionality and conflict situations in cross-language and cross-cultural contexts. The Master’s in Intercultural German Studies aims to provide perception of difference and foreignness, of multilingualism and cultural mediation, which are founded on linguistic, literary, cultural and translation studies. The students will get to know concepts of internationalization that are to be understood as diversification (in contrast to the monolingualism of an international lingua franca). The University of Bayreuth offers integrated master’s programs together with foreign partner universities: Intercultural German Studies / Interculturele Communication with the University of Utrecht; Intercultural German Studies / Linguistics with the Moscow Municipal Pedagogical University (MGPU); Intercultural German studies in the German-Czech context with the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. Therefore, the students enrol either in Bayreuth or in Usti, Utrecht or Moscow and switch to the partner university after one year (two semesters). The graduates will be able to get responsible for activities in intercultural cooperation in science, politics, administration or business. The entry requirements include a university degree (or a completed degree) in intercultural German studies, a German studies course, a philological or cultural studies course, in German as a foreign language or German as a second language or an equivalent qualification, as well as language proficiency German: DSH-2.
