Description
The study program “Master of Arts in Collections-Based History of Knowledge and Culture” offered by University of Erfurt has an interdisciplinary character and it is devoted to collecting as cultural practice. The curriculum is intended to learn students to conduct collection-based research, as well as to train them for working in collections, such as museums, libraries, and archives. As there is a certain emphasize on Erfurt and Gotha collections, the program allows students to research both the origin and evolution of collections as well as the particulars of different collection categories in an interdisciplinary and comprehensive manner. The history of art, of technology, nature, books and society are among the collections to be incorporated into the program. This Master degree is distinguished by its analytical emphasis and research significance. Moreover, regional collections are used for the teaching, and staff from the sphere participate also in the classes.
