Description
History, in its essence, is the study of past events as they are described in written documents. History is important because it gives us knowledge about the past, helps understand certain patterns in past experiences, celebrates great achievements and analyzes mistakes in order to prevent them from occurring again in the future. Traditionally, History can be divided into three eras: Antiquity, Middle Ages and the Modern Age, which in turn result in sub-disciplines of History, studied in universities. History degree courses also teach various subjects like Comparative Regional Studies, Economic and Social History, Historical Methodology, Public History, American History, East European History, South Asian History, and the History of the Jewish People. A degree course in History aims to provide thorough understanding of human in the past, present and future, cultural patterns, diplomacy and international relations. Students develop transferable professional skills – research, critical thinking, efficient communication, analysis and project management. History graduates can expect a wide variety of career prospects. They can work in museums, government, nonprofit organizations, editing, foreign service, legal assistance, law, foreign policy, media, journalism, educational administration and many others.
