Description
The study program “Bachelor of Arts in Ancient Hebrew Studies”, offered at the University of Hamburg, gives students the opportunity to gain basic knowledge of the ancient Hebrew language and its literature. The course of studies brings participants' attention also to the intellectual history, so they can have a deeper understanding of the languages taught. During the Bachelor's degree program, participants have the opportunity to study old Hebrew language as a minor subject together with other sub-courses, including Semantic and General Linguistics, Literature Science, as well as Judaism. The capacity for a linguistically competent interpretation of Hebrew texts of the Old Testament will be developed as well. In addition, students will be introduced to the history of Israel, the Jewish as well as the Christian tradition and theology. Graduates will be prepared to continue further with a participation in a Master's degree program or to directly enter their professional life. The written and verbal Hebrew skills qualify for positions in cultural institutions, museums or for careers in the field of publishing.
