Description
The degree program “Master of Arts in Archaeology and Cultural History of the Ancient Mediterranean” offered at the University of Hamburg is a joint degree combining the study of archaeology and classics. Combining the study of ancient historical sources with the theory and practice of archaeology, this interdisciplinary program offers its participants the opportunity to explore the ancient civilizations of Greece, Rome, Egypt and the Near East. Students will develop skills in the critical study of historical texts and the material remains of the ancient civilizations. At the end of their course of studies, graduates will have in-depth expertise in the scientific handling of political, social, religious, economic and artistic phenomena of antiquity as well as their development in the modern times. Participants will be provided will a set of transferable skills that will give them the opportunity to pursue a career in different fields, including business, management, teaching or journalism. Many graduates of the Master's degree program find employment as professional archaeologists working for government agencies, museums and heritage organizations or applied archaeological companies in Germany and abroad.
