Description
The study program “Master of Science in Bioinformatics” at the University of Hamburg is a research-based course of studies designed to provide students with a platform to explore, analyze and interpret contemporary biological data. The aim of the degree program is to introduce the commonly exploited computational, statistical and analytical approaches to post genomic biology and genetics. Participants of the degree program will develop key skills for the analyses of omics data including genomics data from next generation sequencing technologies. Additional skills around emerging omics including metabolomics and proteomics will also be developed during the study process. Within the study structure there is the possibility for student to specialize in three areas, including Genomics, Structural Bioinformatics and Cheminformatics. Graduates of the Master's degree program in Bioinformatics have many career pathways. They can work at the interface between information technology, biology, chemistry, medicine as well as pharmacy. In addition to an activity in scientific research and development, there are occupational fields, including jobs as software or database providers for scientific applications or to work for biotech and pharmaceutical companies.
