Description
The degree program “Master of Science in Biology” offered at the University of Hamburg is a research-intensive program, based on a previous Bachelor's degree or comparable degree in Biology, which places a heavy emphasis on creativity and innovation yet remains firmly grounded in fundamental science. The course of studies gives participants direct experience with current biological methods, including molecular methods for cloning genes, DNA sequencing for parentage analysis and genetic variation in wild populations as well as analysis of complex genomic and metabolic networks. Students will have the chance to enhance their expertise in modern research methods in biology and deepen their knowledge in the chosen area of study. In contrast to other natural sciences such as chemistry or pharmacy, there are many different occupational fields that will fit biology graduates' profile. Graduates of the Master's degree in Biology are qualified for a post-doctoral degree with the aim of obtaining a doctorate. They have the options to work at universities and research institutes as well as companies in the pharmaceutical, chemical and food industries. Participants can find jobs in the health sector - in laboratories of hospitals, or in botanical and zoological gardens. Students with a Master's degree in Biology can also build a career in management, sales and marketing, public relations and others.
