Description
The study program “Bachelor of Arts in Classical Philology” at the University of Hamburg provides students with scientific knowledge of Latin as well as ancient Greek language and literature in a historical and cultural context. The main goal of this course of studies is to teach participants the basics of translation and allow them to develop Latin-ancient Greek translation skills. Another goal is for students to develop independence, analytical thinking, and openness to other cultures. The Bachelor's degree program prepares students to become active, publishing scholars and instructors in colleges and universities as well. Participants will have the options to choose one of two subjects available, namely “Greek Studies” or “Latin Studies”. The practice of Philology requires a number of linguistics skills as well as theoretical and interpretative knowledge. After completion of studies, graduates can work in the fields of culture and education, administration, mass media, as well as in institutions such as publishing houses or museums. Among the career options are also positions in libraries and editorial offices, where good general humanitarian education, knowledge of classical philology and foreign languages are needed and valued.
