The degree program “Bachelor of Arts in Educational Science” at the University of Hamburg introduces to students the theoretical as well as methodological foundations of educational science and provides them with general vocational skills. The degree program is specially designed to place equal importance on theoretical and systematic, historical and empirical approaches to educational research. During the course of studies participants acquire all-round knowledge of academic and social education, socialization theory and educational psychology. They also learn quantitative and qualitative research methods and, through practical research and workshops as well as seminars geared to the professional context, how to apply the theoretical bases. Students have the chance to become teachers and work directly as educators after graduating from the Bachelor's degree program. The course is also ideal for participants wishing to make and influence education policy at local and national levels, through research and consultancy or those who wish to develop careers in community and youth work, social care and inclusion, media and the arts, as well as other related fields.
