Description
The study program “Bachelor of Arts in English/American Studies” provides a full-time undergraduate course of studies spanning six semesters. The course of studies provides students with an overview of the historical development of the English language, as well as of British and American Literature, including its historical and cultural background. Participants gain a deep awareness of theoretical linguistics as well as applied linguistics. The aim of this Bachelor’s degree program is to create expertise in the linguistics, literature and cultural development specific to the English-speaking world. The English Literature subject that is integrated to the study process covers the English-language literature from the far Middle Ages to the present. The subject American Studies and Literature deals with all aspects of United States' literature from the 17th century to the present, while English Linguistics is focused on the structure of the English language and the importance of the English-speaking countries as well. Graduates of the Bachelor's degree program have access to an interesting range of professions. Among the career options are positions in private institutions, in literature houses or in museums. Other career prospects are positions in the field of public administration, public relations, advertising and marketing. Last but not least, graduates can always teach English as a foreign language at different educational institutions.
