Description

The study program “Bachelor of Arts in German Language and Literature” offered at the University of Hamburg introduces to the students theory- and method-guided analysis of the German language and literature as well as its critical reflection. An important part of the course is taken for learning and understanding the relationship between the German language and literature with other European ones. The aim of the program is to enable students to work independently and express themselves in German. Last but not least, communicative, cultural and media competences are trained as key qualifications for various occupational fields. Also, it is possible for participants to concentrate on one of the following subjects: "Theater and Media", "Intercultural Literature/German as a Foreign Language", and "German Language and Literature". Graduates of the program will have the opportunity to work as editors in publishing houses, cultural managers, journalists, press office managers, as well as teachers of German in schools. The German government’s cultural and language learning arm, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), research institutes, media companies, and libraries are on the list of potential employers as well.
