The ten-semester state examination program “English’’ is offered at the University of Jena. Taught in both German and English, this course aims to educate students about the basic principles of English linguistics, English-American literary studies as well as English subject didactics. What is more, a strong emphasis is place on the scientific description and analysis of English language along with the scientific examination of cultures in the English-speaking world. The degree content features courses such as Academic Writing, History of the English Language, Literary Period, Text and Discourse Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, and more.
