The “Master of Arts in Japanese Studies” is a German-taught program with a duration of 4 semesters. It is a continuation of the corresponding Bachelor’s degree offered at the University of Leipzig. The course is available as a part-time study as well. The aim of the program is to deepen the knowledge of students and introduce them to more complex matters. The curriculum includes multifaceted courses with a focus on Modern Japanese for advanced learners, Classical Japanese, Basics of Japanese research, History of literature and ideas, Media and Culture, etc. Additionally, participants can personalise their studies by undertaking elective modules. Throughout their education, students will receive in-depth theoretical and practical training. They’ll gain language proficiency and key competencies. Furthermore, the MA is research-oriented and provides participants with the social, methodological, and analytical skills needed to carry out scientific work independently. Graduates are prepared for work in academic research and they can opt for a consecutive doctoral degree.
