The “Master of Arts in Musicology: Music as Art and Cultural Practice” is a 4-semester program taught in German and English. It is a continuation of the corresponding Bachelor’s degree offered at the University of Leipzig. The course is available as a part-time study as well and its aim is to deepen the knowledge of students. The curriculum consists of interdisciplinary courses with a focus on evaluation, reception and media manifestations of music, cultural transfers and identity concepts, musical genres, contemporary music, urbanity, etc. Students can also choose from a variety of elective modules in order to diversify their education. The MA is application-oriented and provides participants with hands-on experience and industry-specific skills needed for a successful career. The program prepares graduates to handle complex tasks and assume leadership positions in research and editing institutes, music schools, concert halls, music theatres, radio, television, cultural administration, music production, etc.
