The three-year program “Bachelor of Arts in German Studies: Language, Literature, Media” offered by the University of Mannheim is a combination of German language and Media and Communication Studies. As a part of the Literary studies, students are taught about the history of literature. Accordingly, a lot of books need to be read. Another module, namely the Linguistic one, provides a thorough knowledge about the language, its origins and functions. On the other hand, the subjects in Media and Communication put an emphasis on the scientific analysis, interesting investigations are conducted, for example how movies and tv series influence society. The theoretical knowledge is supplemented by more practice – oriented seminars about editing and publishing. Graduates of the program have various job opportunities such as journalism, publishing and editing.
