The English-taught, research-oriented “Master of Arts in Sociology” offered by the University of Mannheim is focused on quantitative and comparative research. In the first semester students select an area that they would like to gain expertise in, for example Economy and Welfare State, Education and Work, Migration and Integration and etc. Furthermore, they can choose an elective module in a field of their choice – sociological or psychological, or related to the empirical social research methods. As a preparation for an academic career, students write their Master´s thesis in form of a research paper. If graduates aren’t looking for career in researching or teaching, they have also many other working opportunities – in public relations, organization or people development, or in market and opinion research.
