The degree “Bachelor of Education in Teacher Education Gymnasium: English`` offered by the University of Mannheim provides the first step to becoming a teacher. Students, who want to pursue such a career, should also complete a Master Degree of Education. Through the Bachelor course of study participants` focus in on English, Education Sciences and Teaching Methodology. The classes in English (Literary Studies and Linguistics) provide an insight into the literature, culture and linguistics of Britain and America. Students learn a lot about language acquisition and multilingualism, and they also improve greatly their language skills. In the module on Teaching Methodology, the foundations of foreign language lessons at school are taught. Via interdisciplinary classes, students are helped to cope up with the challenges that come when teaching multicultural groups. The fundamental scientific concepts behind teaching and learning are covered in Education Sciences classes, which are supplemented by practical experiences during the first tutoring sessions.
