The six-semester program “Bachelor of Education in Teacher Education Gymnasium: French`` offered by the University of Mannheim provides a comprehensive preparation for a possible career as a teacher, or alternatively a job in the linguistic or cultural area. If teacher job is pursued, students have to complete the Master of Education, too. The course of study focuses on two subjects – French and Education Sciences and Teaching Methodology. During Literary Studies courses students will read a lot of books from all literature periods, and analyse them and other media in terms of language, genre and topics. In the modules of French students gain expertise in French literature, culture and linguistics. Participants also excel their language skills. What methods are used to educate pupils and many more important insights are taught in the module on Teaching Methodology. Via interdisciplinary classes, students are helped to cope up with the challenges that come when teaching multicultural groups. The fundamental scientific concepts behind teaching and learning are covered in Education Sciences classes, which are supplemented by practical experiences during the first tutoring sessions.
